The Food Society needs funding to set up and run a premise with a professional training kitchen. It needs to be in a location accessible to the community. It will include space for local food products to be sold to the public, and a social space to sell food and drinks. A real community hub. The Food Society aims to be a collaborative project that has the potential to help everyone including the underprivileged. It will give a platform to people to use their cooking and baking skills to earn money. A website will facilitate promoting The Food Society initiative. The kitchen space can be rented at a subsidised rate for cooks preparing food to sell. The kitchen space will be used to hold teaching courses for unemployed people looking to work in the catering industry, and training courses to promote healthy food to young people. This initiative will help people in the community earn by using their cooking skills and teach people of all ages skills that will help them into employment.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The inspiration for The Food Society came from a need for healthy home cooking and the untapped resource of home cooks. This project will bring much needed flexible employment to the community. It will boost the local economy and integrate different socio-economic groups. People who will benefit range from carers who cannot leave home to work, immigrants who need a boost into workforce, people who lack language skills and need confidence to get into employment. Young people who will be able to gain skills they can take with them. It will be a great resource for start-ups who need help in initiating their ideas. The community will benefit by having an affordable resource of healthy home cooked food. Local producers will have a platform to promote their products. The Food Society can promote people in the community, giving them a stepping stone to earning and giving them a career path. It can provide training in a flexible space, a hub of ideas, and a multitude of opportunities.
