We want to build a little scooter park where young children can ride and play, and the local community can meet and relax.

Opposite Elm Wood School there is an unloved under utilised grassed piece of land that could be an exciting place for children who come to school on their scooters to play and enjoy during and after school and at weekends. We want to create a mini race track with road markings, mock signs, raised gradients, flower beds and seating for parents, which includes a mobile kiosk serving hot and cold drinks and healthy snacks.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
It will turn a redundant underused space into a fun, safe and enjoyable space that will be enjoyed by the local community which includes parents, young children and families. The nearby school can use it at designated times during the day and teach the children about safe scootering. The rest of the time, it will be open to all to share a morning coffee and chat before school starts, or a place to relax and unwind with the children entertained at weekends and after school. The vast majority of materials used for the raised planters, seating and the mobile kiosk will be built by the local community and parents from the school using materials from the nearby recycling centre on Vale Road, providing an opportunity to learn new skills in the process. The mobile kiosk will give locals an opportunity to start a small business on site, which will eventually contribute to the maintenance of some aspects of the scooter park.
