‘The Beautiful Game' is: A celebration of football! Samba Theatre! 'THE BEAUTIFUL GAME': A celebration of football – international performance arts project fusing live Samba music with theatre. Through ensemble physical theatre, choreography, masks, live music, spectacular costumes, live music and Samba percussion we create an unforgettable immersive drama, exciting for all. The football pitch is the theatre where the action is with ancient Chinese football players, Mayan warriors, famous philosophers, Brazilians on a Rio beach, soldiers in World War I... The theatre is the football pitch where the players can transform into anything...the magic 1970 Brazil team, the Russian team 2018, the English team 1895.

A truly international project uniting all people through the celebration of sport and art. For all ages, adapted to different playing spaces - museums, libraries, schools., youth centres, community centres, festivals, special events, theatres, galleries and site-specific spaces. Incorporation of local people into different versions of the show depending on who is hosting the project. Work with film makers to document workshops, tour, outreach project. Offering free or low cost workshops inclusive of all needs, ages, backgrounds , specificities Professional level workshops offered for performers , arts specialists, teachers and students. Themes, legacy, learning, education pack, resources. Skills - drama, acting, physical theatre, mime, musical theatre, chorus/group work, devising, Samba percussion, football. Teamwork, fitness, history, international connections. Diverse communities rehearse with different cast and musicians!
Steps to get it done:
Bringing to life pivotal moments in modern footballing history and shedding light on contemporary sporting issues such as gender, media representation, ‘soft power’, community inclusiveness and global business. Led by Mark Duncan, artistic director of Cornucopian Theatre Company with musical director Xi-Mali Kadeena-Guscoth maestre of Pumpkin Jigsaw Samba band and choreographer Lucia Tong. We plan to give free/affordable shows and workshop to all potential sectors but especially the youth sectors. It could also be an inter-generational project with the sharing of knowledge and memories through football and sport. We promote and educate in good holistic health through the performance training and football knowledge. We actively encourage inclusion in the practises of theatre and football: girls, differently abled people, NEET categories, etc.
