We want to transform part of our run down youth centre into a wonderful creative space for the whole community. Creating an art room with potters wheel/kiln and multi media zone with recording booth
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We will create a large art room which has lots of natural light, good ventilation and is warm. The art room will have a store room at one end, a potters wheel and kiln and workbenches to two sides which would accommodate 12 people at any one time. The art room would be used by young people aged 6-19 attending SYCT youth club sessions, three evening a week, children during our school holiday activity clubs, adult support groups and families with under 5s. We will develop an art therapy programme for children and adults experiencing mental health problems. We will create a multimedia zone with music production and recording equipment to be used by local young people and unemployed young people and adults. We will create a community lounge for local groups which will be a flexible space for meetings or creative activities such as knitting, sewing or craftwork. Again light, airy and warm. An accessible toilet will be created and improved access to the building.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our building is located in the heart of the community, but it is run down and outdated. It has lots of potential with the right investment. We have already refurbished half of the building to create sports facilities however there is a gap when it comes to the arts. A jack of facilities and lack of provision. Mental health issues are on the rise and there is evidence to support the therapeutic benefits of creative activities.
