Swansea Veterans Surf Club provides surfing and SUP sessions for Swansea Armed Forces Veterans and their families.

The project will create base and provide the equipment to run surfing and stand up paddle boarding sessions for armed forces veterans and their families. The sessions will provide opportunities for members of the club to engage in healthy outdoor activities that will improve physical and mental wellbeing, as well as improve social and community links for many. The weekly sessions will allow the participants to learn valuable skills that will enable them to gain future employment as lifesavers/surf coaches. The organised beach days will enable while families to enjoy the benefits of the surf and sup sessions at no cost to the individuals,

VolunteerSurf Therapy is a not for profit Community Interest Company. Formed in 2019 our mission is to provide ‘surf therapy’ for individuals suffering with depression, anxiety, stress and other mental health issues. We are proud to be a part of the International Surf Therapy Organisation (ISTO).
We work closely with local communities, businesses, volunteers and surfers to help individuals in need experience the physical health benefits of surfing and also the calming and therapeutic effects of the ocean.
Learning to surf in a challenging but safe environment, under the guidance of expert facilitators will allow the participants to overcome personal boundaries and address their mental health. This will enable natural experiences such as fear, apprehension and adrenaline rushes to be generated in the conext of a major personal challenge, undertaken in a safe environment. This 'managed fear' integrates a unique combination of psychological and physical experiences: a supportive peer group, expert facilitators, cold water therapy, blue mind and natural surroundings, the challenge of learning new skills - and provides the opportunity for excitement and enjoyment.
