I am fundraising to locate beach clean stations around Swansea Bay and Gower. So far I have already purchased a station which is located outside The Secret, on Swansea Bay – it is a station which holds litter pickers & bags, plus information encouraging people to do a little bit of cleaning up when visiting the area. It is already being well used. The stations are produced by the 2 Minute Foundation, a registered charity that is devoted to cleaning up our planet 2 minutes at a time. They believe that simple, achievable acts can add up to make a great difference. The #2minutebeachclean campaign is generating a massively growing global community with thousands of followers & over 800 beach clean, street clean & litter pick stations are now located across the UK and Ireland; so far a number of Swansea & Gower cafes have offered to become a guardian of a station and I hope we can provide a means and the awareness all around our beautiful coastline of how people can get involved.

What we'll deliver:

  • Provide #2minutebeachclean stations around Swansea Bay & Gower

Why it's a great idea:

Not a day goes by when there isn't a story in the media about the environmental crisis hitting our planet. We are all waking up to the reality that action needs to be taken but it sometimes feels like a massively daunting & impossible problem to address. BUT we can all do our little bit: Every piece of plastic that you remove from the marine environment is no longer a danger to the animals that still live there. Every item removed from the ocean will not degrade into thousands of tiny, toxic pieces of micro plastic and end up being ingested by fish or sea mammals. Every item removed from a beach will not go on to kill. Every item of plastic removed from your street, beach or park will help to improve it and improve the lives and businesses of people using it. Every item you remove from the beach will be good for you too. Beach cleaning gets you outside, helps to keep you healthy and fit and feeling good, and enables you to take care of nature and take care of what is yours.

Steps to get it done:

  • Getting a station one at a time!

Our coastline is of the most beautiful in the world - I would love to have beach clean stations all around it so we can encourage people to take pride in it, to help keep it clean and safe and to also become mindful of their own behaviours and ways they can help improve our environment. So far the following businesses have agreed to become guardians of beach clean stations: The Junction, Blackpill Fortes. Bracelet Bay Langland Brasserie, Langland Smugglers, Port Eynon Private business - Horton I am in discussions with other locations too so watch this space!
