The project looks at two aspects, firstly raising awareness of local upholstery services by way of billboard advertising. The first billboard will be in North London to kick off the project, and then if successful could move on to other locations. The advert will be produced by a professional designer, with a call to all small UK upholsterers who wish to be involved with their workshop images.
In the longer term, the project will investigate potential financial companies who would wish to work with upholsterers in order to offer finance deals with their customers for upholstery services.
Following this, a website database will be created for customers to use to find those upholsterers that offer the finance scheme. The idea is not for small upholstery businesses to be out of pocket, rather the finance company to offer a solution for customers who may previously have found upholstery to be less affordable or accessible and to encourage them to reuse and repair rather than throw away!

- Emissions from sofas thrown in landfill each year are equivalent to the energy use of an average house over 8,769 years.
- Upholstery is a skilled craft, supporting your local upholsterer means supporting UK heritage.
- Marrying local upholsterers with a finance company in order to offer a deal for the customer means the upholsterer still gets paid the same, but also broadens the accessibility of upholstery services to the wider UK community.
