Our support will help the children of families dealing with cancer and other life-affecting illnesses, giving them a chance to make precious memories together, to provide some normality and respite, and support to process their emotions through such a difficult time. It costs an average of £500 to support a family through memory-making days, activities and counselling/play therapy. With your support we could support another 10 local families.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Chris Aked Foundation was set up in 2018 after an Orpington woman, Kirsty Aked, lost her husband Chris to bowel cancer at only 33 years old. During Chris' illness it became apparent that there was a lack of support for children during the time their families were dealing with life-affecting illnesses. All areas of these children's lives are impacted by their parent or sibling's diagnosis, and sometimes treatment can last for years (not necessarily with a terminal outcome) and they can be overlooked at a time when they need the most support. We aim to provide that support to children from the moment their family member is diagnosed.
