ACAA Supplementary School

Thomas O'Hare By Thomas O'Hare

Low self-esteem, lacking confidence and being held back at school - the children we support all face these difficulties. This project aims to match their capability with educational opportunity.

This project is preparing for fundraising. Click Like to show your support, or Follow for updates on this project's journey.

Funding would help make a difference to each child's future opportunities by providing valuable education and resourcing staff, room hire, literature and trips.

We aim to support up to 100 children through this project.

What we'll deliver:

  • Resource 2 teachers to provide consistent support to the children and young people.
  • Provide literature for education.
  • Hire rooms needed for project.
  • Provide cultural awareness trips.

Why it's a great idea:

The majority of the children and young people we support find completing their school work challenging due to their poor English. Consequently they have difficulties communicating to their peers and many of them suffer from low self-esteem and confidence as a result.

Parents find it hard to support them, as they cannot speak good English either, and often do not see their children very much as they are working long hours.

Young people also lack the knowledge on how the British Educational system works and therefore cannot make informed choices about their future education and employment. Without receiving advice about the variety of options and routes available to them young people could be pressured into joining the wrong groups.

Steps to get it done:

  • Enhance the currently successful business model.
  • Promote the scheme to schools and establish effective liaison.
  • Mid-Term Review of the project to ensure aims are being met.
