Storytale Festival is a week-long journey through the wonderful world of children’s books, featuring local children’s and YA authors, illustrators and storytellers, across the city of Bristol.
The main focus of Storytale Festival is to produce a wide range of accessible, inclusive and affordable events across Bristol that feature local authors, storytellers and illustrators. The aim is to showcase and celebrate local talent, while inspiring young people, the next generation of readers and writers. We aim to take events into local neighbourhoods in an accessible and affordable way, creating a festival that makes the most of community facilities and assets, highlighting services such as libraries and community centres. Bristol has a range of festivals, including a literature festival, but it doesn’t have a book festival for children. The creative idea behind Storytale Festival is to take children on a journey, to spark their curiosity about the world of children’s books, and to inspire children and young adults to become book lovers, to tell stories, to write and illustrate. We want to fuel young imaginations through a series of interactive, fun and creative events.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
As passionate book lovers, both Kate and I want to develop a festival that showcases local talent, provides children with access to a range of creative people from their community and give those children an opportunity to see the possibility of a creative career. We aim to take events into local neighbourhoods in an accessible and affordable way, creating a festival that makes the most of community facilities and assets, highlighting services such as libraries and community centres. Bristol has a range of festivals, including a literature festival, but it doesn’t have a book festival for children. The festival has been organised by volunteers and has a wonderful and varied programme of events.
Steps to get it done:
Although many wonderful people have contribute time, skills and space, there are some costs we need to cover: insurance; website costs; some travel costs and some venue costs.
