St Georges Knights provide people with physical disabilities with the chance to play football. The sport increases self confidence and self esteem in its members. The club has 2 regional league teams and 1 national league team. There is also a development part of the club where some players come for the recreational and social side of the sport. The club is looking to raise funds in order to further expnad the club and bring in more members. We want wheelchair users to have the same opportunity as everyone else. The wheelchairs used for powerchair football are specialised to the sport. We are now nearing capacity for members and need to bring in more new chairs. We are the only club in all of Staffordshire and have 2 sessions running in separate parts of the county. We have built a partnership with a local school and would like to continue this work with other schools in the county and other partners by putting on taster sessions at various venues.

What we'll deliver:

  • Provide top level coaching to give all members the chance to fulfill their potential.
  • Build partnerships with local schools to increase the knowledge of the sport.
  • Give all people with physical disabilities in Staffordshire the chance to play football.

Why it's a great idea:

Powerchair football reaches parts of the community that do not get the chance to be involved in sport. The club is open age and mixed gender so everyone gets the chance to play. All our players and families say that the sport has changed their lives. The club is not just about the sport. Many of our members did not socialise with other people in wheelchairs until the joined our club. Players can mix with others with similar conditions and ask questions they may find difficult in other situations. The sport increases self confidence and self esteem in the players. One of our players recently made the comment that before he found powerchair football he did not feel like a real person.
