The van we are using at present is coming to the end of its life, the costs of repairing it far outweigh its value. From October 2021, the extension to the Ultra Low Emission Zone regulations means that we will no longer be able to leave our farm gates without being charged, severely impacting our ability to run mobile farm events. Spitalfields City Farm needs your support to source a reliable van that will provide many years of hard-working service, from emergency veterinary transport to making sure that the vulnerable and those in less fortunate circumstances within our community can benefit from our outreach services. The new vehicle would meet emission standards and help take the farm forward with our own ethos of striving to improve the environment around us. An investment into the future will ensure we can continue our wider community engagement providing inclusive, educational, and social activities for children, adults, and the elderly.

What we'll deliver:

  • Deliver 12 mobile farms in Tower Hamlets per annum
  • Deliver 10 mobile farms in adjacent London boroughs.

Why it's a great idea:

We offer visits which introduce participants to new experiences that can help to build confidence, physical skills and promote their development, wellbeing or recovery such as hands on animal visits; interactive curriculum linked activities; and training in chicken care & welfare. Educational visits stimulate curiosity and participants can then begin to apply their new knowledge and understanding in the wider world. There is also a wealth of opportunity for language development and literacy skills. Recreational and therapeutic visits provide contact with animals for people who may not normally have the opportunity. Interaction with animals and nature has been proven to promote stimulation, self-expression and enhance wellbeing. Our outreach projects have a wide ranch of beneficiaries from early years to older people. In 2019 we engaged with over 20,000 individuals across 40 events. The delivery of our outreach projects also benefit and are supported by our farm volunteers.

Steps to get it done:

  • Purchase a new van.
