Local people creating projects that make Southwark fantastic place to live, work and relax.
We think it would be great to have a place where we can invite people to share the joy of preparing and eating the food that we are growing here at Edible Rotherhithe. We would like to construct a multi-purpose space that can be a dining room, a studio for art classes and small cafe. We are working with architecture practice STORE Projects to design and construct a multi-purpose space that will bring people together. The project will be part of our education programme and students will work with people in the local community to design and build a new multi-purpose space for Edible Rotherhithe.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
A multi-purpose space would be the perfect complement to our community garden and give us a space to continue our food and arts education classes, make meals and many other things. It would also give Edible Rotherhithe a central space to our project and enable us to open up outside of our existing shipping container workshop classrooms. We need to find ways to encourage people out of isolation and to find safe spaces for reflection, learning, and enjoyment. A new social space in the garden environment can help make those connections with people in our community who might feel disconnected or in need of support. Volunteering and gardening are holistic ways in which we can help offer ways for people to find positive ways out of loneliness. The Edible Rotherhithe project is a community garden and arts initiative. We give people the opportunities to connect with nature and food education and develop skills and ideas through our arts education programme.
