We want to empower young people to improve unused or under used spaces within their communities.
I feel that one of the most prevalent issues in modern society, especially in young adults and teenagers, is that of social isolation - an issue which I believe this venture can tackle. Social isolation can heavily impact a person's psyche, potentially leading to mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety and loneliness. According to the ‘Lancaster County Youth Behavioral & Mental Health Needs Assessment’ from January 2015, 15.8% of parents claimed that their children had experienced depression, and 23.7% claimed that their children had experienced anxiety-related issues. This venture is a local gaming community which hosts regular events in Lancaster. It is designed to combat the issue of isolation and create a community of people who perhaps would not usually socialize, enriching their lives with social interaction, acceptance and the emotional relationships necessary for the prevention of the aforementioned mental health issues.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Video games are an incredibly diverse platform that, over the last decade, has become more antisocial and less accessible to people who perhaps can't afford to pay the high prices that such a hobby demands. We aim to combat these issues, alongside that of social isolation, by hosting social gaming events where like-minded people can come to feel accepted and develop positive, personal relationships with their peers. We would also provide opportunities for people outside of the gaming scene to experience it in a different form, whether it be retro games or the latest technology. The venture also utilizes an under-used space in Lancaster, belonging to Outrageous Ambition, whose mission is to 'To create a space for innovation from which it is possible to develop an inclusive enterprise which forms an integral part of the community'
