We want to build a community that cares about our environment, the safety and wellbeing of the people who live in Leicester. As a result, this project is not only for cyclists, but the wider community in order to get more people actively involved in activities that are headed towards a greater cause. With contributions from this project, our priority is to eliminate bicycle theft within our community to encourage cycling by installing two sets of two Smart racks at Leicester city centre; at Haymarket Memorial Clock Tower and at Jubilee Square. The Smart bicycle racks can be located via an APP, cyclists will be able to identify bicycle racks and can lock their bicycle. Our services accessed through our App include bicycle repair and maintenance from and to a bicycle rack at desired times, access to purchase new and second-hand bicycles and easy access to cycle schemes and other amazing offers. We will solve all problems associated with cycling and offer unimaginable benefits.

Why it's a great idea:

I am a passionate cyclist from Spain, and I lead a team of young entrepreneurs passionate to solve problems in our community. During my first few weeks as a student at the University of Leicester, my bicycle got stolen. Due to this, I started to do some research and I found out that bicycle theft is one of UK’s biggest problems. This initial thought clearly meant that my solution had to be digitally motivated (smart) and needed good engineering skills and manufacturing power (secure racks) to bring my idea to life. Through Uni Cycle solutions, I have brought my idea to life. Our main goal is to prevent citizens to experience those terrible situations and make Leicester a better place to live. With your contribution, the city of Leicester will become a safer place, as the number of bicycles stolen will significantly be reduced and will decrease the level of carbon emission in the city. We are confident to make an impact to encourage cycling throughout the whole population.

Steps to get it done:

• Produce the Smart Bicycle Racks
• Install the racks in the desired locations
• Set the services with the cycling community for the use of all cyclists
• Measure the success by user feedback to develop and improve
• Once is set up we will study the success of this few stations to scale it into the whole city

I am sure that we agree that this will benefit the cyclists, what about everyone else in the community? With this solution the city of Leicester will be tackling every single objective in the local transport plan; reduce congestion, improve safety, security and health, improve air quality and reduce noise, reduce carbon emissions and improve quality of life. Creating a cycling culture that will transform Leicester into a greener city with healthier citizens that would care about the community; a better place to leave. Uni Cycle solutions is looking to change the future of mobility. Deloitte has predicted that Cycling will save tomorrows cities, and it is also predicted that the bicycle usage will double in 2022. Cities are going to change, and we are passionate to be a part of this change. We are also looking forward to making Leicester the first city to have access to this solution, which will also showcase the amazing community Leicester has.
