The history of Deptford is deeply entangled with slavery due to the prolonged presence of the Royal wharf in the borough. For four centuries people from Africa were traded in Deptford to be taken to the Americas. The Naval Museum of Greenwich possesses numerous items that testify the passage. At the same time, there are a lot of historical records that promoted the slavery abolishment movement during the 18th century. Walking in the borough these days it is quite difficult to find urban elements that clearly reference the historical moment which led to the abolition of slavery. The project's idea comes from the necessity of representing that historical process in a physical form where the community can recognise as part of their development. For this reason, it wants to involve the new generation in the designing process in order to make the youth directly experiencing cooperation and collaboration. It will arouse awareness about inclusiveness and equality.
