SINGING FOR ALL started in Easingwold, where it has had a massive impact on the quality of life and well-being of the 30-40 people who attend each week, finding a warm welcome, a positive atmosphere and a room full of supportive friends.
I am looking for funding to help bring this joy to the people of York, at the Clements Hall Trust, a wonderful hub of community activity. I aim to trial the sessions for a fixed time period, up to Easter.
The funding will help with the following:-
*Room hire for the fixed trial period only.
*Providing free places for carers. It is a wonderful activity for couples or friends to enjoy together, where each has support to relax and take part at their own level. This is particularly helpful where someone would struggle to attend without their carer.
*Refreshments are an important part of singing for all sessions. Tea, coffee and quality home baking are provided, as well as a raffle, making for a fun, informal atmosphere
What we'll deliver:
- Singing for all sessions every Tuesday, open to all.
- A positive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and a part of a group
- A safe place where people with a wide range of medical conditions, or none,get together and enjoy success.
Why it's a great idea:
Singing for all has the potential to reach a wide range of people in York.
The Easingwold group includes people with dementia, Parkinson's, depression, people who have been recently bereaved or who are new to the area. The diffrence in people's demeanor before and after the session is remarkable, and many participants regularly feed back on the improvement coming to the sessions has made to their lives, both mentally and physically. Singing together, with no pressure, no expectation of perfection, just total enjoyment in the moment - there is nothing quite like it for making everyday worries and cares subside, for a short while.
Steps to get it done:
- 10 participants attending the class regularly, including at least 2 carers.
- 20 participants attending regularly, enabling the class to continue, self-funded
