This will be a Lewisham based, weekly group using singing/Embodied Voice, breath techniques and connecting with others to improve wellbeing. Open to people of all experience/confidence levels and aiming to create a safe, supportive and accessible space in which to express, explore and enjoy. I'm particularly keen to work with people who would usually find it difficult to access singing and/or wellbeing activities, whether due to cost, health issues or lack of confidence.
I bring to the table almost two decades of experience in working in community settings, 7 years' training in Embodied Voice, breathwork and Performance Psychology, so I have lots of tools and techniques to supercharge wellbeing outcomes! I pay close attention to creating an environment that's safe, welcoming and responsive to each individual's needs. I want to offer this exciting opportunity to a wider range of people, not just those who can afford to pay!
What we'll deliver:
- Offer 10 free places for weekly Sing for Wellbeing sessions for 2 terms
- Hire a local venue that will put the fees back into community projects
Why it's a great idea:
Singing with others has proven potential to improve mental health & wellbeing – your weekly shot of happy hormones! It also lights up the parts of the brain responsible for empathy, coordination and communication. Singing in general has loads of wellbeing benefits including reducing stress, improving lung function (better outcomes for asthma etc.), improving brain function and allowing us to express emotions, which in turn, boosts mental wellbeing.
This group will be a low-pressure, small group environment, without the rehearsal and performance schedule of a choir. No need to worry about auditions, singing on your own or being put on the spot. This will benefit anyone who's looking for an accessible and social way to boost their emotional and physical wellbeing.
People who are feeling isolated and stressed after lockdown, feel anxious about attending large group activities or would love to join a choir/singing group but can't afford or commit to it will benefit from this project.
Steps to get it done:

- Second term complete!
