We want to transform a tired, empty building into a vibrant hub for children and adults who have Down syndrome in Cheshire with a new sensory room.
We want to create a sensory room for infants, toddlers and children who have Down syndrome at our new hub. This will help the many babies and children with Down syndrome we support who face complex sensory issues. Funding will pay for equipment, electrical sockets and installation of the sensory room which will include an infinity tunnel with buttons, lights, sound system, bubble columns, fibre optics, floor and wall padding, dark den and sensory panels.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Around 49% of individuals with Down syndrome experience sensory processing difficulties compared to approximately 5-16% of the general population. Having access to a multisensory room will provide stimulation, help to improve their ability to manipulate and control their own environment. It can help them relax and let go of some of their frustrations, as well as empower them by allowing them to control their environment, motivated by the stimulating sensory rewards. Learning can also take place through selected wall images and the use of interactive colours and sounds.
