Addressing the fact that many people don't know how to cook delicious and nutritious food, this project aims to equip people with recipes and practical training on making simple Senegalese dishes. Delivered by Chef Khadim, the founder and head chef of Little Baobab, this programme will aim to develop the cooking skills of diverse members of the Newington Green and Mildmay ward community. Alongside the cooking instruction, each class will showcase Senegalese culture through live music performances by Senegalese musicians and explanations of various aspects of the culture and traditions. This will build on Little Baobab's work in promoting Senegalese culture and increasing cross-cultural understanding. As follow up to the classes, each participant will be provided with a copy of Little Baobab's new cookbook which explains the recipes in detail, as well as the opportunity to obtain ongoing assistance and support from Chef Khadim and the Little Baobab team.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
By increasing people's ability to make flavourful and healthy food at home the project is able to increase the health and wellbeing of people in the local community, as well as saving them money. The project is particularly aimed at those in the Newington Green and Mildmay Ward community who lack cooking skills and perhaps live alone, providing them with new skills and community links. Particularly many Senegalese and black British people in the local community can't cook and through our existing links we can easily engage them. The project will also increase people's understanding of Senegalese culture. The Senegalese community is a small but growing group in London and through our classes we aim to showcase elements of Senegalese culture.
