Our existing kitchen is many years old, in disrepair, and has limited use. We want to update it into a modern and thriving community kitchen. The refit will have a customised area for children to prepare and cook food. The refitting will be carried out by a local professional builder, with fixtures and fittings sourced by our local branch of Howden's. Howden's have given us a generous discount, but we still need your help to fund the rest of the work! Our community kitchen will be available to SEAPIA's users, as well as the wider community, including local services - Foodbank, local schools, sheltered housing, and health services. It will create opportunities that will empower participants to share skills, experience foods from other cultures, as well as deliver workshops on healthy eating, food hygiene, budgeting skills, and bake-offs!

What we'll deliver:

  • Transform outdated kitchen into an accessible community asset.
  • Provide opportunities for volunteering, training, and workshops.
  • Promote healthy eating, and managing budgets.
  • Improve community cohesion.

Why it's a great idea:

Sands End is a diverse community that has a big socio-economic divide. The project will improve community cohesion by encouraging social interaction, break isolation and bridge gaps between different cultures, ages, and abilities. It will help reduce social isolation, and empower participants to stretch and challenge their abilities. New friendships will be formed and multicultural skills will be shared. We work alongside City Harvest, a charity that delivers food to us to share amongst families that are struggling to manage their budgets. Budget skills will be improved by workshops delivered by Foodbank. We are hosting a gardening project where we are creating a community vegetable garden and will be using resources from the garden to bake healthy foods in our new kitchen!

Steps to get it done:

  • Remove existing fixtures and fittings.
  • Fit new kitchen
  • Community kitchen up and running
