SKAMM will travel to Shetland on the 4th September for three nights, spending their time between Screenplay and cultural Shetland activities, designed and led by Maddrim Media's young people. During the trip SKAMM will create a short film with Maddrim Media, as well as conducting interviews with festival guests and a making a video blog of their trip to share with other young people in Edinburgh.
We will travel by train from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, then taking the 12 hr ferry overnight to Shetland. Staying in basic camping accommodation and cooking together, we are doing everything to make the trip cost effective.
The festival is even offering a special screenwriting workshop for SKAMM and Maddrim to take part in together.
The project will enable young people from Edinburgh to have a whole new cultural experience as they visit Shetland for the film festival.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
This exchange is a fantastic idea because it is bringing together young people who share a passion for film making.
It is a wonderful opportunity for SKAMM members to experience something new, and take away skills and new friends.
It will enrich both groups experiences of film festivals and knowledge of the industry through the chance to network, attend workshops and watch film.
This will all be enhanced by the intimate nature of Screenplay, dubbed the UK's friendliest film festival.
The chance to attend the Edinburgh International Film Festival is a wonderful opportunity for SKAMM's young people, but is often overwhelming given its scale.
The Shetland film festival will give them a chance to get in there and really experience the festival without this anxiety.
Collaborating with Maddrim Media, the youth film making group in Shetland, will mean they can learn from each other and enjoy meeting new young people with similar interests.
