Seghill Gala has been a traditional annual event in Seghill village since 1911 and is one of the few remaining miners' Galas in the country.

This annual festival is an opportunity for the community in Seghill village and beyond to get together and celebrate. In essence, with a respectful nod to our past, including Seghill's historic mining heritage that helped establish our village, we hope to resurrect The Seghill Community Gala so that everyone who comes along can have tons of fun!! 2023 will mark the 100th Gala actually taking place as an outdoor event at our Welfare field, as some years were missed due to world wars and most recently covid restrictions. We would like to revive the Seghill Gala so that future generations of the village can experience the community spirit and take part in traditions that have fallen away over the last few years. . . such as the much-loved Gala parade through the centre of Seghill. The Seghill Community Gala is a day that brings hundreds of residents together to help support local groups and businesses, spend time with friends and family and honor our mining past.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Seghill miners Gala is a community gathering for everyone; young and older in Seghill village, Seaton Valley, and beyond. However, bringing this celebration to our area is a journey that goes SO much further than the one 'BIG day' itself. We have many community events completed and planned to help bring the Gala back better. The natural spin-off is a growing community spirit and pride. The enthusiasm and passion many local people have shown to help deliver the Gala has been amazing. The wonderful past accounts fondly remembered, the Mam's who want their children to experience the Gala day as they did, the sadness that Seghill miners Gala may be no more, have already galvanized residents to rally together and with your help get this show on the road.
Steps to get it done:
We hope to make Seghill Gala day as sustainable as possible. Using recycled materials, and homemade creations, involving many local groups, families, and individuals. We are already involving the local first school and with the added focus on the history of our village, the school has now added a project about Seghills mining heritage to its curriculum.
