We are going to create floral displays and cultivate lost and forgotten areas of the village to make something marvelous for village residents and passing public to enjoy. We are entering as a village into the RHS Britain in Bloom project in the Yorkshire category. It is important for us to encourage keeping the village tidy of weeds and litter at the same time and build on civic pride. We hope to use as many sustainable, recycled and reclaimed products as possible and grow as many plants and vegetables as possible from seed. We want groups, businesses, residents of all ages and abilities to join in with whatever they can do and with however much time they can give. We want to encourage bugs near to our beds and plants with the use of companion planting and construction of a bug hotel. Water butts and hoses will be bought made out of recylced products and placed around the village for all to help with watering. We have will be working with schools, groups, the WI, church etc to achieve
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We want to awaken the village to it's residents and passers by with creating a new and refreshed living space by creating simple colour and simple features with new plants and planting ideas. We want to involve local elderly residents in sheltered housing, school children, groups and businesses as well as the local church and residents. We especially want to work cohesively with all faith groups, people who have extra needs, lonely and isolated people who cannot access flora and foliage or green spaces and gardens. This will be a wonderful project which has worked in neighbouring towns and we feel this is the next step for our village and we are going for GOLD in the RHS Britain in bloom awards. Win or lose, we will have had a wonderful summer of glorious colour!
