Our park is underutilised, overgrown in places and unloved. The playground is uninspiring and shabby. We want to make it a park to be proud of. One that brings families and the community together.
Creating 'our dream park' is a 4 year plan. Phase 1 is Consultation and Planning. Once designs have been drawn and approved by the community, Phases 2-4 would follow, each year requiring funding support. Eventually the park will be more accessible by completing the path around it, with a trim trail to encourage fitness for all ages. The playground facilities desperately need replacing (25% of those who responded to our survey don't have gardens) We would encourage more imaginative play with musical/water items and a more natural play area, alongside a 'traditional' play area. There is no local provision for older children/teenagers, so need an area for them eg zip wire, multi use games area, seating. We hope to establish an orchard and beekeeping area, so families can learn about care of the trees and beekeeping. Picnic benches and items to encourage families to visit are on our list too. It's a grand plan which starts with professional help- and that costs money!

Why it's a great idea:
Our community spirit has already improved since the Friends of Manor Park Group was set up. It has given local people the ability to do something about their park, as it has focus and a dream for the future. The park covers more than 25 acres and is the 2nd largest park in Kingston. It is a wonderful space which could be so much more for the community than it is at present. Families and carers will benefit hugely and teenagers/young people will have somewhere they can enjoy, knowing it was designed specifically for them. Families without gardens will benefit, as well as those interested in nature and fitness. The environment will benefit from additional planting and beekeeping.
Steps to get it done:
The new found sense of community, just from the simple copse clean up, litter picks and bulb planting sessions we have done, is palpable. Imagine the effect that a park to be proud of, would have! I'm sure that more indoor and outdoor community events would follow, along with a closer knit neighbourhood. The first step on the long road ahead is to get the planning done correctly so that our park can be the best version possible. Dedicated designs, 3D plans, scale models, landscape ideas, workshop advice and professional help will enable the community to have a say in how their park will be in 4 years time.

You were a great help in enabling us to reach our target for Revivify Manor Park- Phase 1 last year. That phase, you may remember, was to design a plan for the future vision of how the park could be- and what a great plan it was. Tomorrow we go live to the public with Phase 2 of Revivify- 'Our New Playground'. We plan to build an amazing brand new playground with separate sections for younger and older children. If all 125 of you who pledged last time did so again, that would be brilliant and if each of you could coax just one new person to pledge- we'd hit 250 pledges with ease! Playgrounds are expensive we've discovered so our target is a hefty one- £195,000 but Kingston Council have pledged £140,000 already. £55k to find... Following applications and then interviews the Friends of Manor Park committee have chosen landscape architects 'Outerspace' to design the 'masterplan' which over the next 5 years, will Revivify Manor Park. As promised, there will be workshops and consultations with the community - the 1st of which will be held in the Shiraz Mirza Hall on May 14th 7pm-9pm. The evening will consist of a short presentation by Outerspace on their design analysis of the Park and then an informal and interactive workshop where you get to air your views and ideas. Armed with this information, along with feedback from consultations with the Park stakeholders, workshops with infant and secondary schools and questionnaires, they will create an initial plan. Please join us and make you views known so they get the best idea of what everyone wants. The brief as to what we want the 4 potential Landscape design companies to consider when pitching to us, will go out to them by Tuesday 12th March. We hope to have chosen one by 3rd April and then their workshops and consultations can begin. We will hopefully have a final design based on the community feedback by mid June. We're getting there!...

VolunteerFriends of Manor Park is a voluntary group whose aim is to improve the facilities of our local park. We are a small enthusiastic team, with members who are always willing to assist on projects when asked.
Established in 2017, we are constantly looking ahead to provide long term benefits for our neighbourhood and a park to be proud of.
In 2018 we began a large regeneration project called 'Revivify Manor Park'. We have completed Phase 1, which raised £26,000 to employ the services of Outerspace- a landscape design company, who created a wonderful vision for the future of Manor Park with the help of consultations and workshops within the local community.
We plan to deliver our overall vision in phases over a 5-7 year period. Phase 2 - Our New Playground - will demonstrate that this wonderful 25-acre park is going to be something special for our community.
