O'Leary Square consists of 3 blocks of flats. 2 of the 3 blocks (app. 100 flats) have external communal landings as well as private external space. Our 2 storey block (30 flats) has internal communal landing corridors and no private private outdoor space. The corridors have painted walls which I have never seen refreshed, in the 20 years that I've lived here. Flooring consists of vinyl tiles, from the original build over 50 years ago. The vinyl has ofcourse become completely brittle and I suspect contains Asbestos. The caretakers will not fully clean these corridors as their machine doesn't work on the vinyl and is breaking them even more. This concerns me more as I now have a little boy who is 2 years old and is unfortunately picking up this stuff as sometimes puts it in his mouth. We the residents have requested these areas to be updated, however the council have not been forthcoming with this, and even then are looking to transfer the costs to leaseholders major works bills.

What we'll deliver:

  • Re-paint 3no. Communal corridors. Inc supply of materials and labour
  • Update the flooring in the communal corridors.

Why it's a great idea:

This will benefits at least the 30 households that have to live here. It will allow us to maintain pride on our estate and deter loiterers and criminals. It will not wait on the council to eventually make us pay for it. It will encourage keeping it clean. It will make this area a safer place for our children to play in.

Steps to get it done:

  • Flooring replaced
  • Communal walls painted
