By Revival, Mind in Bexley and East Kent
We will transform the 58 High Street premise into a MIND creative wellbeing Revival café hub. Incorporating food, community, creative space and mental health and wellbeing support and initiatives.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We are currently in the process of purchasing the new premises where this project will be delivered. We are also awaiting the outcome of a planning application for these works. We expect both of these issues to be resolved in the coming weeks and no funds raised in this campaign will be transferred until Spacehive has seen confirmation that this is complete. We will renovate a central premise to create a MIND multi-use community creative wellbeing space for a café hub with accessible toilet, training/art/workshop room, outside/indoor garden, music area, calm/water area and dining/social space and an area for facilitated self- help/peer support & mentoring. We are raising funds for phase 1: Getting up & running with electrical, plumbing, floor and plastering works throughout. This includes creating an open plan kitchen area providing a birdseye view of our ingredients/cooking processes and front of house counter/coffee area, with floor to ceiling repaired and redecorated.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Mental health spaces have traditionally been hidden or clinical, Revival is different, dynamic & unique, a welcoming inclusive space, a central hub of local mental health information/support for residents. The MIND hub will support wellbeing initiatives and our partnerships delivering food/support to local residents in mental health need. The café works in partnership with local support networks using current/developing referral pathways and provides local employment/volunteer opportunities and support to those having suffered, currently suffering or caring for those suffering with mild to moderate mental health issues and are at a sufficient stage in their recovery to be able to engage, support others and return or maintain employment. The café will support local suppliers to provide nutritious/healthy dishes at affordable prices and a pay-it-forward scheme for those in need. Covid has increased mental health challenges and Revival's approach and support is more needed than ever.
Steps to get it done:
Revival is a social enterprise by Mind in Bexley & East Kent and has been running as a successful wellbeing café hub in Whitstable. It was forced to leave its current location and has the support of the local community, council and MP to relocate centrally to protect its vital services. Income from the café is the main source of funding for the mental health support and initiatives. Revival also runs community campaigns and has supported local school children in a wellbeing art project and local residents on a mindful photography course and slow stitch project. The new creative wellbeing hub would provide opportunities to develop our wellbeing support with creative partnerships incorporating music, art, mindfulness, meditation, nutrition and music. Music is medicine for the mind and our vinyl decks provide opportunities for incorporating it into our wellbeing work.
