The Colchester in Bloom team have been working towards restoring this totally neglected space since 2014 We are delighted to now be able to go ahead with the help of a work party from the local Nepalese Society, and some funding from the council. Both these things are such good news. However, we are short of funds to buy tools, hose and other necessary equipment. This garden will totally restore this downtrodden area of town which at the moment is looking unkempt and neglected and in desperate need of some care and loving attention. Everybody in the community is welcome to join us in this project to help plant and maintain the area, and will include a number of community groups and volunteers of all ages. There is a lot of interest from all the towns residents, the garden will be beautiful and be a very welcome addition to a rundown ugly space. Besides the restoration benefits of the project, it will also be a very strong joint community event which will be both fun and rewarding.

What we'll deliver:

  • engage many voluntary communities to work together
  • totally rejuvenate an ugly neglected space in an important part of the town
  • give people surroundings of beauty and pleasure to live and work in
  • An information board, listing plants, all those that contributed and have been involved in the restoration of the garden

Why it's a great idea:

the project will engage children from a number of schools, hopefully some local businesses , some council funding has been pledged, plus what will be the ongoing help with maintenance of the Gurkha Society who are keen to be part of the local community and not sit apart. There is a lot of controversy with proposed building ideas in this part of town. This will be a good happy thing to be going on rather than the bickering of what might or might not be built near the location. The Colchester in Bloom team is made up totally of volunteers. We have been pioneering to plant up this garden for 5 years and are so happy to think it just might happen now. But we are short of some cash to totally finish the job with all our plans, so will need some contributions please

Steps to get it done:

  • clearing space
  • digging old compost then adding new
  • covering with membrain
  • planting up a glorious beautiful new garden in an otherwise neglected space

Acting totally on a volunteer basis, the Colchester in Bloom team work to generate community involvement in making Colchester a more beautiful place to live and work. A blooming Colchester will create that feel good factor which will contribute towards social and economic vitality. To develop this garden, and join together so many community groups in so doing has been at the top of our list for the past 14 years. So we are delighted it is actually going to happen, but we still do need offers of help and sponsorship to complete the job
