St. Mark's Church supports a range of activities for people in our local community. The Church has services on most days of the week, while the church centre is used by the community everyday. Our main activities focus on the needs of the elderly in tha area. We operate a day centre for the elderly 4 days a week, a lunch group on a Friday, a history group and a card making group. There are plans to develop more activities shortly. In addition to this there is a stay and play group twice a week, a local musical theatre group on two evenings a week, a youth theatre group one evening and a youth group on a Saturday afternoon. The church centre as well as the church is used by the congregation on a Sunday and at other times in the week. Our aim is to replace the existing drive with block paving at a cost of £20,000. It has to able to take the weight of our two minibuses that bring in the people to the day centre and delivery vehicles as well as cars.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We work with vulnerable older people, many who use walking aids and it is a constant worry that they might fall. Withour our work these people would be very isolated in their own homes. Our church centre is well equipped for their needs with disabled toilet facilties, flat access and a deaf loop. We have spent a considerable amount of money in keeping the internal areas of the hall up to a high standard, but now we must do some work to the outside of the building to make it safe and attractive.
