We are looking to return schools back to previous school times where boys and girls played football, rugby, netball etc against other schools but make cricket a new sport and a new adventure for them. We will be working with each school at gym time giving them training and practice as part of their curriculum. Our project will mean us engaging with age groups P1-P4 and P5-P7 with both boys and girl teams from every school in North Ayrshire playing cricket once a week at school during school term against other schools in a midweek league. This will lead into Monthly round robin days with a full day out of school for 6 local schools at a time , depending on midweek league results where abilities are matched to keep interest high and sense of achievement getting higher. The combination of the weekly and monthly events will lead to an end of term Cricket school festival with prizes and achievement awards. We will run games and training for all during the summer months until school returns.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our project will see Increased children well-being and activity. Allow them to develop individually as well as being part of a team. It allows kids to try a fresh sport and learn a new skill. It will improve children's interaction with other kids. It is a sport for all the family, boys and girls whatever their age and does not discriminate against ability. Kids play against kids of similar ability. It helps kids form friendships with other kids at school they may not be involved in. It will also help them recognise and interact with other children from other schools which again improves children confidence when out and about and when they eventually go to the secondary school which can sometimes be a daunting experience for them. Team sports are great for forming lifetime friendships and cricket promotes this all year long. Social events run hand in hand with our club and gets other families linking up with each other. Its great to see kids gaining confidence and developing as people.
