Built in 1921, The Northenden War Memorial on the old Palatine Road, is sadly in need of refurbishing. The railings that surrounded The Memorial Gardens were sacrificed in World War 2 and have never been replaced.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Come Remembrance Sunday nearly 1000 will congregate and on Remembrance Day about 300 will gather but due to the broken paving we have to be very careful wear we tread. Due to the lack of a ramp to allow a wheelchair-bound person to access the Memorial.
Steps to get it done:
If we can raise enough money we will support the plans of St. Luke's Church, Benchill, Wythenshawe to create a Garden of Remembrance on land next to the Church. If it can be done we'd move The Wythenshawe War Memorial to this site from its current site outside the old Wythenshawe Legion Club, closed in 2014. We would also support the move of The Roll of Honour from the old Legion Club to within St. Luke's Church.
