Redwing Gallery is a not-for-profit social enterprise run entirely by unpaid staff and volunteers. We represent art and artists working outside the mainstream commercial art world. We work with artist's whose work doesn't easily fit into the commercial norm. artists who have learning difficulty, physical or sensory disability, mental health issues, or whose lack of training or social skills or social circumstance make it difficult for them to be accepted into the mainstream art world. Redwing has evolved to become a community hub where people can get together for group activities, social support, sharing information and so on. We want to develop our vegan Cafe de Cuba, serving healthy food and drinks created in our own community kitchen. Our current base is under threat of development which will mean the end of our project unless we urgently find a long-term project space.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The local community meet, work, eat, drink, talk and play and learn at Redwing. If the building is sold to developers the project we may have to move out at short notice. We urgently need to secure a long-term base
Steps to get it done:
We're not asking for a fancy building. All our community needs is a simple, warm, dry building with space to exhibit art, take part in workshops, rehearse, perform, relax and have meaningful interaction.
