The parish of Middleton-on-Sea has seen a considerable increase in speeding traffic through the village. With the removal of PCSO'S and the complete lack of any police presence the situation has got worse and unless improvements are made it is highly likely that residents will suffer injury. The Parish Council receive many complaints about speeding and dangerous parking (on or near pedestrian crossings) and have come up with two projects. The first project is to install village gateways at three locations in the village to inform drivers of the speed limit. It has also formed the Middleton Community Speed Watch Group which is made up of volunteers who will patrol the village with speed guns and report speeding motorists to the police for them to consider what action to take. This will not resolve the problem entirely but it is hoped it will reduce the problem to a more manageable level.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The project will show a commitment to reducing the level of speeding vehicles in the parish. The village has a high number of elderly people who are sometimes afraid to go out for fear of speeding vehicles, hopefully these fears can be removed. It will also show that with village gateways and a commitment from volunteers to the Community Speed Watch what changes can happen and this idea be taken up by other areas at risk.
Steps to get it done:
Location Bognor Regis
About the space
Large number of retired/elderly people with some younger families with children. Village has a speeding issue and drivers need to be educated and through Community Speed Watch and village gateways to get the police to enforce speeding and dangerous driving/parking so that the problems can be reduced
