Our project is to ensure we are recycling as much as we can within the academy from our current position of not recycling anything. We have just changed our refuse contract and had recycling refuse and general waste refuse split so we can separate our waste and ensure it goes where it should so it doesn't go to landfill. The academy has an ambitious target to achieve 70% recycling within 2 years. Now the infrastructure of refuse collection is in place we need to put recycling and general waste bins in every classroom and also make the options available in the grounds. We have identified 13 locations outside where we would like to put a general waste and mixed recycling bin and we have 200 classrooms and offices inside where we would like to put two small bins one for mixed recycling and one for general waste.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
separating the waste at source allows the bins to be collected separately and put into the correct refuse bin for collection. It will reduce the amount going to landfill and stops large amounts of waste being contaminated. It will also allow us to really engage with our student population (920 students) who have been calling for this change in the school and build life long skills.
Steps to get it done:
This first stage of our project will cost £6812 which we will need to fundraise for. 26 Outdoor bins @ £116.96 each = £3040.96 200 30 Liter indoor bins @£18.86 each = £3772
