Our aim is to take old and disused land in Barnet from which we shall create a community space utilising up-cycled, environmentally friendly, shipping containers. The funding will help to; • Repurpose disused land providing a new and inspiring creative hub for the local community. • Convert the containers in to sound proof music studios, edit suites, art studios and office spaces which will provide secure creative and working spaces for the local community. • Clean and regenerate the land, adding gravel and planters to improve the aesthetic of the site and providing a clean and enjoyable area for the community. • Provide a location for a local catering business to thrive. • Provide free weekly youth clubs and workshops to help develop and grow the talent of young adults.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
In recent years we have noticed a trend of using shipping containers to create amazing and unique spaces for local communities and businesses. Boxpark, Pop Brixton and Village Underground have taken this idea and have boosted the local economy, provided jobs & education, offered a space for the community and improved the image of the area, we hope to replicate this in Barnet with our project Re-boxed. By taking currently disused and unsightly land in Barnet and repurposing into a presentable creative hub for the community we are sure to provide jobs and education and a boost to the local economy. With arts funding for schools cut so drastically in the last decade opportunities for children and young adults in the arts are almost non existent in schools. We aim to counter this by providing an opportunity for disadvantage youths in the area to get hands on in a music or art studio and have fun creating.
