We want to create a sheltered "Pump 'n' Ride" stop, install an air pump and repair station for all cyclists to use for free. We want to transform a section of underused car park into a secure communal bike store hut for residents on the estate. Some residents are put off getting a bike because there's a lack of storage indoors. An outdoor bike hut could get more residents on bikes & get people together. A notice board to show local cycling events & information. A section of the notice board available for rent advertising cycling related services/products.

What we'll deliver:

  • Build a well lit communal secure bike store for residents
  • Install communal air pump & repair station
  • Tell the bike community about Pump 'n' Ride
  • Ask the local community what it wants & how it should look
  • Hold a 'Grand Opening' launch event with free cycle security marking
  • Brand & Decorate our Pump 'n' Ride stop
  • Install an information notice board, with sellable advertising space

Why it's a great idea:

We are in desperate need of bike storage for our blocks of flats. Our residents are keen cyclists often with more than 2 bikes per household. Families with children may have up to 4 bikes inside the small flats. Bikes are not allowed to be stored in communal areas. We have an unmanaged, underused car park which is often used for fly-tipping, dumping of abandoned vehicles and dodgy social activity. We live on a busy cycle route and the proposed Greenwich - Waterloo cycle Quietway. We often see cyclists repairing their bikes on the side of the road. Wouldn't it be great to have a dedicated space where punctures could be repaired or air could be topped up? By making use of this space & giving it a makeover, we believe it would encourage a feeling of community and stop those fly tippers. We'd love to turn this space into something which would instantly benefit our residents and also help the cycle community. We want to inspire other estates to do the same!
