Pulford Village Hall has been at the centre of the local community for over 100 years. It is a vibrant community hub hosting local groups of all ages including Bridge, Art, Pilates, Yoga, Handbell ringing, Tai Chi, Dancing, Darts and Table Tennis as well as being a venue for family parties, meetings and other community activities. Through the actions of a dedicated group of local volunteers the village hall has been decorated and modernised but is desperately in need of state of the art toilet facilities that are more family friendly and easier to maintain. Whilst we have separate male, female and accessible rooms there is inadequate heating, hot water supply, hand drying facilities and ventilation. The ceilings are untidy and unsafe with polystyrene tiles and broken extractor fans. We plan to completely refurbish the toilets with modern facilities including vanity units, a proper disabled toilet and baby changing facilities to provide a clean, safe and hygienic environment.

What we'll deliver:

  • Existing old toilets removed and replaced with close coupled toilets, cisterns and seats
  • New urinals in male toilets
  • Porcelain basin bowls with taps and waste
  • New hot water supply to taps in all toilet rooms
  • Tiled walls around sinks and urinals
  • Removal of polystyrene ceiling tiles with installation of lower ceiling, spotlights and concealed extractor fans
  • Electric hand dryers in all rooms
  • Overhead door closing
  • Wall mounted drop down baby change unit within disabled toilet
  • Accessible toilet facilities

Why it's a great idea:

The current toilets are over 30 years old, cold and unhygienic. There is an unreliable hot water supply and poor drying facilities. The extractor fans do not work. The existing polystyrene ceiling tiles present a potential fire risk. The desired improved toilet facilities will provide a clean, comfortable, safe and hygienic environment for the many users of Pulford Village Hall. The facilities will be of lasting benefit and will help to make the local environment, of which the village hall is an important hub, a more welcoming and healthy place. Improved toilet facilities will benefit all village hall users and the provision of baby change facilities will further enhance the village hall attraction to the local population.

Steps to get it done:

  • Removal of old toilet fittings
  • Installation of new toilet fittings
  • individual toilets to be renovated sequentially to allowed continued access
  • Decoration and finishing

The village hall hosts thriving and long-standing Local History and Arts groups as well as frequent Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and dance sessions. The planned toilet refurbishment will enhance these activities and encourage further use of the excellent village hall facilities. The main hall, or parish room as it was previously called is grade II listed (English Heritage Legacy ID 55361). An extension was added in 1970 to include a kitchen and toilets, and in 1976 a committee room (now Lady Edna Wilson Room) was added. The committee room is used for group activities and various meetings including Parish Council. The CWAC planning officer has stated that as the planned work will not cause any harm to the listed building it should be possible for the work to go ahead without a Listed Building Consent. Confirmation of this has been sought from the CWAC Conservation and Design team.
