We are two mums who got frustrated with our teenagers and their friends being bored and having nothing to do and extremely concerned about the massive drink and drug culture among teens so decided to do something about it. ProjectXU18 was born! We were supported by the police, local businesses donating their time and equipment to give these kids a really good time. We also showcased up and coming local dj's and bands. Initially there was a problem with drink/drugs, but they soon learned that this was not acceptable and that they could have a good time without resorting to drink/drugs. One of us has moved to Cheshire where we have organised our first event with massive funding from the local council and businesses. However, we are having no success at all in Skipton. We feel that these kids deserve something good, something to look forward to instead of hanging round the streets drinking and taking drugs. The events were really popular and it is a shame if they cannot continue.
What we'll deliver:
- Find a venue and do health and safety assessment if necessary
- Find and book DJ's/bands
- Hire security
- Hire sound/light equipment
- post event on Facebook and invite kids
- inform Police of events
- Liaise with local taxi/bus companies to ensure safe transport home
- obtain other equipment if necessary

Steps to get it done:
- Cannot do this at the moment without funding as we cannot pay for anything in advance
The kids love and deserve these events. Parents know their kids are safe. Events are kept affordable so everyone can have a great night. The Police are very supportive. We let them know where events are and on what date, and they will ensure there are extra officers on duty on those nights. We have built up some great relationships with security companies, sound and light engineers etc, giving the local economy a little boost, and have given that all important first break to local up-and-coming DJ's and bands, some of whom have gone on to great success. This discovery of young local talent needs to continue. We have an extremely good reputation among teenagers, parents and the local community, and have extremely good references from our last venue. We are both extremely passionate about these kids and these events and need them to continue.
