Ex-offenders, individuals with mental ill health, Learning Difficulties or generally lacking in self esteem/worth will be able to obtain appropriate and relevant Training/Counselling/Mentoring etc to enable them to improve their lives. Making such services accessible and user friendly is not always attained by many existing organisations. Our work to date has made it clear that a section of the community do not feel able to obtain the help they need from the mainstream organisations. This may be due to miscommunication, discrimination, lack of confidence and a number of other reasons. RMUK has been able to remove the barriers which prevent the marginalized in our community from seeking effective assistance to improve their situation.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
By addressing the root causes of the various problems faced by certain sections of the community and investing in their development, our society is enhanced. Improved self esteem and sense of worth will be achieved and individuals will receive the necessary training and support to become self sufficient with improved employment skills. There will be an increase in local enterprise as well as skilled individuals applying for work. We aim to remove the current sense of hopelessness felt by many. Service users of the Progress Centre will adopt a socially inclusive mindset and will be given support for sustainability, to improve the local economy and stability. In time, results will also be seen in the anticipated decrease in neighborhood violence and general crime throughout Lambeth. Relations between the diverse groups of the Borough will improve. This in turn will contribute to a positive future for previously disadvantaged individuals and all stakeholders in the human family.
Steps to get it done:
The United Nations has declared 2015-2025 The International Decade for People of African Descent. The Theme: Recognition, Justice, Development. Lambeth is home to a large number of African/Caribbean families. This group faces historical disadvantage at many levels and the UN recognizes the fact.
RMUK has been actively engaged in:
Recognition - of the disadvantageous position of this group.
Justice -providing access to services, training and education without discrimination
Development - on personal, social and economical levels
