Warwickshire Placemaking Fund

A capital fund for projects which will enhance, improve, and enliven the town centres across Warwickshire.

Projects we're interested in funding

We are looking for projects which transform shared space, inspire visitors and enhance the experience in order to bring more people into our town centres, increase footfall and support the local economy. This could be anything from creating an art piece, improving the welcome through signage and information, to transforming a disused piece of land from eyesore to eye-catching, improving the shop-fronts of a rundown parade of shops or even adding a mini play area into your high street. We are looking for projects that bring town centres together - businesses, residents, and local organisations. It must have local support and boost the local economy. This is a capital funding pot. The fund can pay for items such as: - building and construction costs - equipment e.g. street furniture, signage - professional fees that are directly associated with a capital project e.g. architect or surveyor fees We cannot fund any revenue costs, this would include items like salaries; recruitment costs; rent; heating and lighting; publicity / marketing; training and expenses; event costs. If you are unclear as to whether your costs are eligible please contact us to discuss further.

The outcomes of our fund

Projects must look to deliver these key outcomes • An uplift in the local economy of Warwickshire town centres - will it increase footfall, increase spend within the town centre shops, cafes and restaurants, or result in fewer vacant units? • An improved visitor experience through better / new signage, information, attractions, and interactions (art, events) • Improved working partnerships / networks within the town between businesses, residents and local communities - has a new partnership been set up? Or an increase in partner meetings or increase in the number of people attending partnership meetings? • Creation or enhancement of civic (shared) space which encourage increase people to stay in town longer, increase the community use of it, increase the footfall in the town, or increase spend in the town – will it increase the number of events held, increase in number of people attending events, will shops report an increase in spend once its done? • Improved physical appearance of a town centre through the project.

Remember...

We will be assessing and scoring projects based on: 1. Is there evidence of need for the capital project and how will the project address this? 2. The level of community and business engagement > is there good support for your project? 3. The expected impact of your project on the town centre and its local economy > who will benefit? 4. Are the costs reasonable and well thought through? 5. The sustainability of the project following completion i.e. on-going maintenance 6. Project Management and delivery > a clear approach to delivering the project, timescales for delivery and responsible persons 7. How the impact of the project will be measured and monitored during delivery and once completed 8. Alignment of the application to the core purpose of Warwickshire County Council’s One Organisational Plan 2020 The amount pledged will depend on the scale of the project and remaining funds available. The maximum size pledge will be up to £20,000 - the value of the pledge will depend on a projects final assessment score and alignment with the funds overarching aim of supporting town centres and the local economy. We will not fund 100% of project costs.
