The charity’s main work continues to be running the school and providing a range of activities to benefit the less advantaged people in our care. This is done within the school framework and in out of school hours. TRUSTEES AND STAFF REMAIN COMMITTED TO HELPING CHILDREN DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS AND CHARACTER SO THAT THEY MATURE INTO WELL-ADJUSTED, CAPABLE CITIZENS. This is all done at no cost to the participants. Our aim is to give these children equal opportunities to their peers and provide a healthy environment for them to enjoy their spare time. We also support individuals and families in crisis through our voucher scheme. s a Orthodox Jewish (OJ) school based in London Borough of Hackney, the 2nd most deprived borough in England, all our students live in poverty; most of them live in overcrowded accommodations as well. Our students are unable to partake in mainstream extracurricular programmes due to their cultural needs for single gender activities (from age 3). As a result, these children have very little (if any) opportunities to enjoy safe recreational activities outside of school, spend time away from the overcrowded city, and enjoy a rural experience. As an independent faith school, we are under-resourced and very limited in the extracurricular programmes that we can afford to offer. Since 58% of OJ families in Hackney are on means-tested benefits (Mayhews 2008), we offer our services at no or minimal cost because we believe no child should suffer from unequal opportunity or poverty. 65% of our students live in flats with no access to a garden and over 75% of parents stated that they don't own a car and thus are unable to provide recreation and leisure opportunities further afield. This has created a void which we aim to fill which in turn improves their social and schooling experience.
