The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the Zero Waste way of living and reduce unnecessary packaging waste in peoples daily shopping. The local Zero Waste and Refill shop will enable customers to shop for dry food and liquid cleaning products directly to their own reusable containers at the flexible quantities, also reducing the food waste. Way of shopping giving the sense of care and proudness of contributing to our planet condition. The shop will also offer Plastic Free, recyclable/biodegradable household and self-care products like kitchen cleaning accessories, body and oral care products etc. We will also offer click and collect points and local home delivery options to make it more accessible to customers across the local area. In the future we'd like to extend our offer to Home Made preserves and home grown fruit and veg, encouraging customers to grow their own as well.

VolunteerHi, I'm Bianka and I live in Coalville. This is my story. I was raised in a small Polish village, and I have always been passionate about closer to nature living. As a child I was used to my mum's pantry abundant in jars filled in tasty homemade foods from her vegetable garden. But life went on and got busier with plenty of packaged everyday products which not all can be recycled. One day while doing the dishes I thought 'This sponge needs replacing, I wish it was recyclable... Wait, there must be something more eco-friendly I could replace it with' and the online search began. I found that there are natural, biodegradable options that I could even just throw in my compost bin! Amazing! What a fantastic discovery totally changing the way of my thinking that I can reduce the harmful to Earth waste. I also found plastic free alternative to cling film, toothbrushes, all sorts of household cleaning accessories, shampoo bars etc. And then I just wished I was aware of these plastic free alternatives earlier and thought that many people are also simply unaware of these unless they search it up specifically or come across other ways. So, my instant idea was to make these products available locally and raise awareness of the options by enabling to purchase plastic free products in a local shop. Searching up I came across the Refill of dry foods and liquids and totally fell in love with the idea. Since then, it has been on my mind, and I decided to open a well-stocked Zero Waste and Refill shop to enable and support local people to switch to less plastic way of living. Zero Waste shops become more and more popular, however there is still short list of them in Leicestershire area. I would like to create a fantastically stocked shop local to Coalville and Ashby De La Zouch so the customers can stock fully their kitchen cupboards with no unnecessary packaging and introduce plastic free alternatives into their household.
I have asked my dearest friend Ula to join me in this journey. Ula is passionate about homemade preserves like jams, pickles, syrups etc. We will work together to introduce these in our shop as well and share with customers how to grow and preserve their ow food.
Each of us have two high school aged children and we strive to make our world a better place they can live in.
