This festive event results in the lighting up of Pitshanger Lane for 40 days over Christmas and New Year, this year however, the lights have remained on throughout the winter in order to bring light and cheer throughout some dark times. The lights now need replacing which the PCA has always previously funded in addition to donating tens of thousands of pounds to countless local charities. Due to Covid-19 we have been unable to do any fundraising for well over a year, our last event being Light up the Lane 2019 and our other major event 'Party in the Park' being cancelled last year and unable to go ahead this year. This means we do not have the money to replace the lights and will therefore be unable to run the event again this year. Our event is a local institution which brings people together not only from Pitshanger but from surrounding areas and further afield. It's army of volunteers and helpers is a true reflection of the community spirit this event creates.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
If we can get funding for these lights we will be able to hold this annual event and therefore start raising money again to help other charitable causes. This event encompasses the whole community and the independent traders on Pitshanger Lane. It creates a wonderful ambience and is a full on family affair with children's entertainment and activities, all currently funded by the PCA. As well as the involvement of the local traders many other tradespeople, arts and crafts people, youth groups etc have the opportunity to be involved, raise the profile of their business, group or charity and there is something to appeal to all ages. SSE have agreed to install the new lights and also remove the dirty, tacky bunting that cannot be reached. thus making the street look even more appealing. The PCA has successfully run sizeable events for over 20 years and would love the opportunity to bring this community back together after over a year of hardship and misery.
