As well as putting on a musical spectacular for local people, we want pipers and drummers to challenge themselves to improve through competition. It costs around £7000 to stage the event, including provision of qualified judges from Scotland, PR system , additional toilets, so we are seeking help with fundraising.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The public loves to hear and see pipes and drums, and from the car park to the arena they can be in amongst the music all day. "Pipes in the Park" effectively replaces the military tattoos of the past, and is free to the public. It promotes good musicianship, showcases talent and keeps the Scottish tradition alive in southern England. It may even encourage youngsters to take up an instrument
Steps to get it done:
This is the 24th year of our event, and it is the only outdoor pipe band contest still left south of the Wash. Bands and their families enjoy coming to Colchester as Castle Park is such a fantastic venue, so we help to boost a positive image of the town.
