We want to purchase up to 3 automated external defibrillators (AED) and cabinets for our area to be accessible 24 hours a day, centrally located for our parks and community sports grounds, for our main shops and restaurants. Furthermore we wish to develop a community campaign that raises awareness of the device(s) and trains staff in community halls, shops, pubs and restaurants, and members of the public from all age ranges to feel confident to raise the alarm & use the AED. We also want to include training for major bleeding / stab victims and purchase a supply of bleed control kits that can be located around the community inc pubs, community halls and parks.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Penges’ loss of a well-known member of the community inspired a small project to fund raise for a defibrillator. Penge Partners have identified the project is bigger than just a piece of equipment as we have a significant amount of our population in the ‘at risk’ age group for heart disease & our younger population increasingly at risk of injury from knife crime. We also have an amazing community who want to help one another, yet we lack the collective skills & equipment to effectively help a victim of sudden cardiac arrests (SCA) from heart disease or major blood loss. The UK Resus Council suggest an AED should be within 5 minutes of the SCA event. Currently there are no community defibrillators in the SE20 area. We want to bring the Penge community together, inc traders, schools & community groups to organise training & public awareness events, purchase community defibrillators & 1st aid equipment with replacement supplies & refresher training, making it a sustainable project.
Steps to get it done:
Penge Partners is a community group who offer support for local projects & community groups & residents in Penge and Anerley. The Penge Partners promote greater understanding, partnership & integration between the diverse communities in Penge; to improve community safety; & to contribute towards the wellbeing of the area. They facilitate the Penge Older Peoples Network, Penge in Bloom & Penge Festival – all free to attend community events for the benefits of including the community http://www.pengepartners.co.uk/home/4582026888 We have commenced fund raising, & are liaising with London Ambulance Service to ensure we purchase the correct equipment & training. We are seeking ways to expand fund raising by working with our community & other groups including the Penge Forum, Penge BID, Penge Traders, Penge Parks groups. We intend to hold training in local community halls, schools & invite local shops, pubs & restaurants to also participate & be hosts for the Bleed Control Kits.
