Our project seeks to transform Rye Lane indoor market into a bespoke fashion event that will provide a unique platform for local traders

As London based events producers with “Rio Spirit” we feel passionate about celebrating the culture belonging the people who “drive” the community life surrounding our local area- Peckham Rye Lane. We are on a mission to prove that an ordinary space which functions to serve the day to day running of the community can be transformed it into a creative site capable of hosting a spectacular fashion event that will raise the profile of local businesses.

From our experience producing street events in Rio has taught us to never be afraid to break with convention and do it your own way! We believe that what we can do in Peckham will give those high end fashion events up town" a run for their money showcasing looks emerging from the cultural diverse and "daring" fashion scene we have on our streets!

As Dell Boy would say- "He who dares wins!"

What we'll deliver:

• Edit a documentary video + film of the final fashion show as a testimony to what can be achieved in our community.
• Our production team will transform Rye Lane Indoor Market into a bespoke fashion events space
• Prepare our models for the runway with the ‘model mentoring’ from professional choreographers
• Produce an incredible Fashion Show that will make Karl Lagerfeld want to move to Peckham Rye!
• Build connections with at least 10 local traders to collaborate with us as fashion partners for our event
• Document our creative journey step by step with photos, videos and blog posts shared across social media.
• Recruit 10 catwalk models from our local area representative of Peckham Rye’s “Bold” fashion scene
• Recruit a "Peckham Fashion Squad" responsible for catwalk styling and model scouting around Peckham Rye
• Recruit a "Peckham Fashion Squad" responsible for styling our catwalk and model scouting

Why it's a great idea:

Because many of the local businesses surrounding Rye Lane do not get recognition for their contribution to the cultural life of our community as they are considered separate from the emerging ‘creative scene’ Peckham is proud to support.

Our project seeks to challenge this approach by developing project in collaboration between local groups who contribute to the life of Rye Lane - including local traders, small independent businesses, mainstream businesses, creative enterprises and the local council. By working together we hope to generate a shared vision for how to transforming public spaces within our community.

Fashion event celebrates the unique urban fashion scene impacted by local retailers in the area alongside fashion retailers and boutiques we include also nail-bars, hair/ beauty salons.

Steps to get it done:

• Be responsible for all documentation of our production process and distribution across social media.
• Be responsible for the promotion/ sales/ administration of tickets for the event.
• Hire a professional film maker to edit our documentary video
• Oversea creative team of lighting / set designers, music producers, choreographers, fashion stylists & makeup artists.
• Develop a marketing strategy to target fashion press to guarantee positive exposure for our collaborators
• Generate awareness for the project around our local community via local blogs/ newspapers.
• Recruit an event production team including technicians, security staff, on site manager, FOH and extra volunteers

This project has influenced by our circuit of collaborate artists in Rio de Janeiro who create exceptional events in their communities. Their ethos behind projects such as "Arte Pública" is on using public spaces as a platform for showcasing creativity and culture emerging from the people who use the space that space. Groups such as AfroFunk Rio have also inspired us to give greater recognition to the impact of African looks upon our cities fashion scene particularly strong in areas such as Peckham Rye.
