We will train five homeless people who will be pooled from the community winter night shelter to provide on-the-job basic cooking training with the prepared food served at our Community Drop-In Centre. The training module will be for eight weeks, and at the end of the eight-week module, each trainee will receive a Level 2 Certification, a £1000 move-in deposit for a flat, and a £500 gift certificate for move-in expenses. We will work in collaboration with the winter night shelters in the community to financially support the move on to permanent accommodation. We believe this project will benefit the community by providing a space in which to reengage the homeless back into the community and becoming a productive member of the community while receiving training, and, more importantly, help financially support sustainable housing.

What we'll deliver:

  • An opportunity to volunteer

Why it's a great idea:

A fantastic opportunity to train five homeless people pooled from the community winter night shelter to offer on-the-job cooking skills and preparation of food, which then will be served at our Community Drop-In Centre. The training module will be for eight weeks, and at the end of the eight-week module, each trainee will receive a Level 2 Certification, a £1000 towards a move-in deposit for a flat, and a £500 gift certificate for move-in expenses. We will work in collaboration with the winter night shelters in the community to financially support the move-on to permanent accommodation. We believe this project will benefit the community by providing a space and opportunity to become productive members of the community while receiving training. More importantly, we will benefit the community by financially assisting the trainees with their housing move-in deposit.
