One Big Dance is a huge community and international project bringing people together to rehearse and perform from isolation to live interaction. The project runs in 2 parts the first of these being an online dance film. We have already began engaging with people across Merseyside, nationwide and some international participants dancing our 'Come Together' choreography accompanied by a message of positivity to the world which will then be edited together to make a massive collage of people dancing One Big Dance together. Part 2 is all about rehearsing, via zoom, in isolation to conclude with a large communal flashmob in Liverpool. Our zoom rehearsals are for anyone across Merseyside and the NW working alongside established and emerging choreographers based/from Liverpool. We need funding to continue delivering our sessions, resources for the final performance and for the editing process. The project is voluntarily run by a team of freelance artists wanting to bring joy to Merseyside.

What we'll deliver:

  • over 150 people engaged within a Liverpool based project
  • a 45 minute dance film promoting Liverpools response to a global pandemic
  • professional delivery of weekly workshops free for the community
  • weekly engagement and artistic collaboration on a national scale

Why it's a great idea:

One Big Dance is a celebration of human spirit and documents a unique shared experience, reinforcing Liverpools' community heart and bringing people from all walks of life to dance One Big Dance together. The online videos gives any and everybody a fun activity to take part in where all performers benefit f the opportunity to contribute. Teachers, parents and arts organisations have already expressed interest in One Big Dance as an opportunity to engage their students and participants in a fun, free activity to learn and create. Part 2 participants benefit from a weekly confidence and physical boost engaging in inclusive movement classes and the joy and excitement of working on something in isolation that will have its end product in live connection with others. The final culmination of the footage from both parts will be presented online giving participants a celebration of all our performers dancing One Big Dance together.

Steps to get it done:

  • delivery of 1 month of online weekly sessions
  • purchasing resources for the final production
  • creating the team for the editing and filming of the performance
  • outreach opportunities for local business such as an post performance celebration at a local establishment
  • creating a dance film to use to promote the artists and participants involved
  • using the One Big Dance film to work across other sectors and future disseminations of the project

We are a small team of 3 with a sound designer and 2 additional film makers. The heart of the project is big but so is the workload and at this stage of the part 2 workshops having started I would like to use the money from this application, should it be successful, to pay the artists involved and provide resources for the final performance and edit the footage. All the team have been hit hard by the projects cancelled due to the corona virus and we are finding people are engaging more as something to give them a lift. This project is so necessary and with your help we can enable the reach and the provision to go further.
