The Olive Branch Charity was created by members of the community surrounding Grenfell Tower in response to the fire. The funds raised would help pay for a shipping container, ecology classroom.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
The Olive Branch Charity was created by members of the community surrounding Grenfell after the fire with the hope to try & bring positivity into a time of such trauma & negativity. In the 7months since the fire, we have acquired unused green spaces in the surrounding area to bring life & colour through nature. In the space opposite to Grenfell Tower (Kingsnorth) we have a dedicated space to put an ecology shipping container classroom in so that we are able to educate people through nature, horticulture & the environment. In times of high trauma in this community, we have seen that people react well to gardening & learning about nature. We want to optimise the ways in which we are doing so, so the shipping container classroom would aid us in our ambition to not only provide a therapeutical service to this community, but one of a sustainable, long term education that strips everything to the bone to goes back to the foundations of life itself.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
As community members ourselves, we created this charity in order to give people surrounding Grenfell spaces to express themselves creatively through nature. Since the fire we have touched many members of the community, joining us in creating the Grenfell Peace Garden, Maxilla Nursery & a space on Acklam Road. We now have 2 new green spaces to work on, at Kingsnorth & St Charles Hospital, & with our charity reaching out to an increasing number of community members, we feel that it would amazing to be able to provide this community with the therapy, education & love we truly deserve.
Steps to get it done:
The Olive Branch Charity was created by members of the community surrounding Grenfell after the fire with the hope to try & bring positivity into a time of such trauma & negativity. We found that gardening, & being one with nature, only brought peace & was a way community members were able to express their pain through creative means. We are now on a journey of pure creativity, positivity & peace. We are in the process of creating green spaces, made by the community, for the community. We are currently in 5 spaces in the community surrounding Grenfell Tower. Our aim is to reach out to as much of our community as possible - not only to be part of this amazing process of creating these green spaces, but to also allow space to find peace in times of such trauma. This page has been created to seek support for necessary resources to provide therapy & education to community members after the fire of Grenfell Tower. We will also be holding nature workshops in the spaces we create.
