The alcohol free venue will be a contemporary, stylish space, open 7 days a week, serving superb food and drink and offering a programme of enticing entertainment and sociable activities to the residents of Nottingham. The menu will feature local, seasonal produce and a fabulous range of alcohol free smoothies and beverages and the changing programme of entertainment will include live music, arts & crafts events, poetry performance, family friendly films and comedy.

What we'll deliver:

  • We will train our volunteers to work in the cafe/ venue.
  • We will recruit a chef and manager to train volunteers and run the cafe/ venue.
  • We will refurbish suitable disused premises in Nottingham city centre to a high standard.

Why it's a great idea:

The cafe / venue will provide a welcome alternative in Nottingham city centre for those who would like the choice not to socialise around alcohol. It will encourage the night life in the city centre to become more diverse, attracting families, young people and other groups into the area, making the atmosphere more welcoming for local people and visitors. A similar model has recently been shown to be very succesful in Liverpool, where 'The Brink' is attracting a great range of customers, including manywho just want to 'pace themselves' on a night out (www.thebrinkliverpool.com)

It will provide training and employment skills for people recovering from drug and alcohol problems, helping to support their long term recoveries and to make a contribution to society.
The venue will provide low cost space in the city centre for local people and groups to host meetings and events. The venue will be a self-sustaining social enterprise, so Nottingham will enjoy its benefits for years to come.

Steps to get it done:

  • We will consult with our service users and with other focus groups on the design of the premises
  • We will tender for the necessary work to be done by recommended local contractors
  • We will train our service users to be volunteers to work in the venue
  • We will identify suitable premises in the city centre
  • We will make all proper arrangements and preparations for the lease and refurbishment of the site
  • We will openly recruit for the key staff positions
